HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL
Book, Music, & Lyrics by
Laurence O'Keefe & Kevin Murphy
Directed by
Joey Banks
This was probably one of the largest productions I've been a part of at Southwestern. In terms of size, set, actors, and influence, it really pushed the limits. With a large ensemble comes a lot of secondary, even tertiary characters. The director didn't want them to be wasted, so subtle stories were happening all the time outside the main story line. I know I had my hands full juggling three different characters, but at least now I can say I've shared a gay kiss on stage. I think Heathers challenged me in finding that balance between personal ideals and the ideals of my characters. I want to make sure I maintain a healthy distance, but not so far that I can't find the common ground. Everyone is human and humans are imperfect, why should these characters be any more or less perfect?
