TEXAS BEAUTY PAGEANT MURDER: THE FALL OF DON SWAN
Directed by
C. B. Goodman
The Murder of Don Swan actually started as another original piece called The Don Juan Project. A faculty member at Southwestern took the literary character Don Juan and devised a theatrical piece that was part performance and part scholarly discussion. Later, Southwestern was accepted into the International Collegiate Theatre Festival (ICTF) for the 2018 Festival Fringe in Edinburgh. A new director was brought on, students were selected for the ensemble, and work began on remaking The Don Juan Project from the ground up. Once the script was written, the whole ensemble, many of whom (myself included) doubled as designers or management, came together to get it running. One month later, The Murder of Don Swan was complete, and we performed it at the Fringe in August 2018. In my mind, nothing comes close to what it felt like to create new theatre and participate in one of the the largest festivals in the world. It was an experience entirely our own.
To Southwestern and the Sarofim School of Fine Arts,
To everyone who made this production possible,
I am truly grateful.
Thank you.
