A BRIGHT ROOM CALLED DAY
By
Tony Kushner

Lilly Wolff
Husz was a challenging role on several fronts. From the first day of rehearsal, we were all diving into the political climate of Bright Room. Socialism and Nazism were huge topics in the play and it was important we understood the differences and how each faction developed. I also experienced first-hand Kushner's penchant for playing with language, having to memorize and perform a monologue in verse. The fight choreography was particularly striking because it was the first time the action was driven by such anger. There were so many elements, both onstage and offstage, that came together. If I were given the chance to reprise my role as Husz, I would dive deeper into the political discourse and really nail down his motivations.
